About

A studio built around useful work.

I'm Jake Prickett, an engineering leader and hands-on builder. Prickles Tech is the home for my consulting work, independent products, technical writing, and experiments.

I started the studio to give small businesses direct access to practical technology guidance and to help focused technical projects move from a fuzzy problem to a working result.

Career experience

Enterprise perspective, applied directly.

This is Jake's professional experience, not a claim about Prickles Tech client work.

Ford Motor Company

Engineering Leader

Built the mobile foundations for automotive applications deployed across 26 countries, leading cross-functional teams through platform architecture, developer experience improvements, and large-scale mobile infrastructure.

Meijer

Principal Software Engineer

Led engineering teams scaling an ecommerce platform to support an expanding retail and advertisement market across 20+ teams — focused on platform strategy, developer productivity, and agentic development initiatives.

How I work

Direct, practical, and accountable.

Start with the problem

The right answer may be a plan, a workflow change, an integration, a focused build, or a decision not to add more technology.

Stay close to delivery

I work directly with the people affected by the outcome and remain hands-on when the work moves into implementation.

Founder product

Building products, not only advising on them.

Technical playground

Side projects for the fun of understanding how things work.

These are personal technical interests and experiments, not Prickles Tech service offerings.

Home systems and self-hosting

Reliable services, storage, automation, and the operational work behind them.

Networking and structured wiring

Practical network design, physical infrastructure, segmentation, and observability.

Edge computing and hardware

Small systems, dedicated Macs, NVIDIA Jetson devices, and experiments at the edge.

Self-hosted AI infrastructure

Private inference, model serving, context systems, and the hardware-software boundary.

Beyond the work

Based in Grand Rapids. Curious everywhere.

I'm a husband and dad of two. Away from a screen, I'm usually cooking Italian food, making pizza, fly fishing, golfing, or finding another household system that could be made unnecessarily observable.
